Woman with open arms in front of the Duomo in Florence

Halden

An editorial for Halden Atelier's printed collection book, shot in one Florentine day: the Duomo square at first light, an apartment by afternoon.

The brief

Halden Atelier prints a collection book every season and sends it to stockists before the samples. The pages are already designed when the shoot is booked, so the brief arrived as a layout with empty frames.

Morning

We were in the square in front of the Duomo before seven, while it was still empty. The opener, with arms wide and the cathedral behind, was shot in the first twenty minutes, before the tour groups arrived and the light went flat on the marble.

Afternoon

The rest of the book was shot in a rented apartment a few streets away: the striped jumpsuit on a cream sofa in window light, the chartreuse gown against a coral wall in the stairwell. Each frame was shot to its slot in the layout, including the verticals for the cover option.

Files came back graded to match the paper stock of the previous books, so the layout went to press unchanged.

We shot the collection and the people wearing it in one afternoon. Every file came back graded to sit inside the pages we already print.
