Entropy
A long-weekend travel feature for Entropy, a print quarterly, following one guide through Rome's squares and fountains.
The brief
Entropy runs one city story in every issue, told through a single person who lives there. For the Rome feature the writer chose a guide who has walked visitors through the centro storico for a decade, and we followed her for four days.
Scouting the light
The first day was spent without her, mapping how the sun moved across Piazza Navona and the fountains nearby, and noting when each square filled. The schedule that came out of it put the open frames in the first hour after sunrise and the close ones in the afternoon, when the walls turn ochre.
The story
The pictures follow her day: a straw bag across the square, a gelato at the fountain, a stop against a warm wall between tours. Nothing was staged past asking her to walk a route twice.
The set ran across twelve pages, with captions written from the place names and times in the file metadata.
